Canna ‘Lucifer’ is a small Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, ovoid shaped, acute apex, branching habit; clusters of flowers are open, scarlet with a wide yellow margin, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals green, partial self-cleaning, low bloomer, flowers in July until frosts in northern temperate zone, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is slow.

One of the most popular of Canna varieties, and yet little is known about it’s origins. Experience states that it most likely a re-packaged older variety, given a new name and much marketing razamataz.
